If i guage my ears up to 00, will my earlobes ever grow back to normal?

I've heard sometimes if you do it right you can get them back to normal.. but i know a guy who is in his mid thirties, with big holes in his ears, he has a baby and a wife.. im not sure how smart it is to make them that big if you don't want it that way forever..
